The Students Union of Osun State Polytechnic, iree, has suspended the proposed protest after meeting with the Stakeholders of Osun State Government.

In a public statement released today, July 28, 2023 by the Union executives and co-signed by the SUG P.R.O Daramola Pelumi Stephen, Oluyeye Kayode Alade, SUG Gen. Sec, Azeez Tajudeen Adebayo, SUG PRESIDENT, Sen. Nosirudeen Toheeb Olamilekan, SRC CLERK, Sen. Faramola Oluwasegun Joshua, SRC SNEAKER, the Union firmly expressed their desire for the prompt reopening of the institution, and however, urged all concerned parties to engage in discussions without any delay.

The memo disclosed that the meeting addressed the temporary closure of the institution which was a result of the crisis between the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, School management, and the Osun State Government.

“We are pleased to inform you that the Permanent Secretary, Chairman of Ospoly Governing Council, and the Commissioner of Education have given their assurance that a meeting between the concerned bodies will take place on Tuesday, 1st August 2023. During this meeting, they have committed to resolving the issues, and as a result, our beloved institution is expected to resume before the end of next week.”

“However, it is crucial to emphasize that the SUG representatives have made it clear that failure on the part of the state government and ASUP to resolve the issues before the stipulated deadline will lead to a peaceful and massive protest on our part.” the statement read in part.

The Union, however, disclosed the assurance of the stakeholders to hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in a bid to resolve the ongoing issues which are in return expected to secure the resumption of the institution before the end of next week.

Additionally, the Union also presented at the meeting various issues facing the institution which include the freedom of private vehicles on campus, campus roads, a request for SUG BUS, and students' palliative, stating that the stakeholders promise to review and act on it.

It will be recalled that OSPOLY ASUP members staged a protest at the institution on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, following the suspension of Tajudeen Odetayo as the Rector which affected the ongoing examination of the Daily Part-Time students of the institution.

This protest, however, led to the stoppage of the examination and closure of the institution, in which the protesting body insisted all academic activities would be suspended till further notice.
