The Academic Staff Union of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has been urged by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) to resume academic activities and student exams while looking for more effective ways to interact with the government.
The association advised the protesting members to find another way to agitate and communicate with the state government as shutting down academic activities in the institution will have a negative impact on the students in a statement signed by the deputy president Comrade Adeniji Boluwatife today, 26th of July, 2023.
According to the association, Nigerian Polytechnic students shouldn't always suffer from issues that have to do with the management and the government as the students don't contribute to the changing of management.
“Students that has duly pay their School fees, prepare well for the examination, the demoralizing this break will caused the Students can't be Overemphasize, the ASUP should Consider their Students and place their academic as Priority at all times.” the statement noted
In a similar vein, the association also called on the institution's management to continue with the suspended examination without the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics if they refused to listen to the appeal.
It would be recalled that OSPOLY ASUP members protested at the institution on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, in reaction to Dr Tajudeen Odetayo's suspension as rector, which had an impact on the school's daily part-time students' proceeding exams.
However, this protest resulted in the cancellation of the DPT examination and the closure of the institution, in which the protesting body stated that all academic activity would be suspended until further notice.
