Confusion slams Students As OSPOLY SUG reaffirms resumption Amidst ASUP Strike

By Michael Obisesan

Students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have been left in confusion as the Students Union Government reaffirmed that the institution would resume on Monday, August 9, 2023, despite the recent affirmation of continued strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Iree chapter.

It will be recalled that the SUG on Friday, August 4, 2023, revealed that it had a critical meeting with ASUP, the Governing council, and the state government in which the institution resumption had been scheduled for Monday, August 9, 2023

However, the ASUP chairman in a recent private interview with NEB, today, confirmed that the association is still on strike as it cannot agree with the appointment of Mr Kehinde Alabi as the acting rector of the institution, stating that the appointed acting rector isn't worthy and not qualified in every ramification.

This contradictory development by both bodies has sparked various reactions and confusion in the mind of the students of the institution, as they keep questioning who to believe among the associations.

It would be recalled that Dr.Tajudeen Odetayo was suspended as the rector of the institution and replaced by an Acting Rector, Mr Alabi.  over allegations of corruption, misappropriation of funds, misuse of office, and others.

The suspension, however, led to a protest by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), iree chapter on Tuesday, to show their disunity against the state government's decision to suspend Dr. Tajudeen Odetayo.

NEB had reported how the protest has led to the suspension of academic activities and the ongoing DPT exams in the institution in which the Students Union Government had met with the bodies various times to ensure the resumption of academic activities.
