PERSIST OSPOLY ASUP STRIKE: SUG Proposes New Ultimatum, Promises Mgt Protest at Govt House Osogbo

The Student Union Government (SUG) of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has called on the management and the state government to resolve the issues of the Asup Strike and summon the reconciliation meeting before Monday, 7th of August 2023.



In a public statement released today, 2nd of August, 2023 by the Union president and co-signed by the executives, firmly expressed their desire for the prompt reopening of the institution, and however, disclosed that if the parties involved did not abide by the new ultimatum, the union would be forced to hold a peaceful protest at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo. 


The release emphasized that a crucial reconciliation meeting was promised by the Commissioner of Education, Chairman of Osun State Polytechnic Iree Governing Council, and the Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Education. Noted that the purpose of the meeting was to address the unresolved issues between the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), the school management, and the Osun State Government.


Additionally, according to the Union's recently released statement, the new ultimatum is anticipated to provide more opportunities for the parties to engage in constructive dialogue and come to an agreement on a favorable position to find an immediate resolution that puts the interests of the students and academic community first.


It would be recalled that the Union, however, disclosed the assurance of the stakeholders to hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in a bid to resolve the ongoing issues which are in return expected to secure the resumption of the institution. 


In a new development, The Union proposed that the student body would be forced to hold a peaceful protest at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo if the ultimatum was not heeded. stating that the protest will be handled appropriately, adhering to the principles of peace, respect for law and order, and the rights of all individuals.
