OSPOLY NEB Holds Handing Over Program in Style, Inspiring Speeches Highlight the Event

Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, witnessed a momentous occasion on Monday as the National Association of Mass Communication Students (NAMACOS) Editorial Board (NEB) officially inducted new executives into offices. 


The event, held at the polytechnic's auditorium (NLH 1) on Monday, 16th Oct. 2023,(today) featured insightful speeches by distinguished guest speakers, the Immediate Past leader, and the President of the Mass Communication Department (NAMACOS).


With a palpable sense of excitement in the air, the First speaker, Com. Mrs Abisola, delved into the lecture on intermediate journalism, emphasizing the importance of self-independence by using unique ability to foster development while admonishing the students to make use of the available media platforms to prioritize finances and ensure that they neglect unwanted circumstances in the institution and outside the polytechnic community 


At the ambiance of the occasion, the second guest speaker for the event, Mr. John Bola Bamigbola, the Ex-Secretary of Nigeria Union of Journalist, Osun State Council, currently Osun Correspondence of the Punch newspaper, a renowned journalist and media practitioner with years of experience in the field deliberated on the topic; ‘practicing of journalism outside campus with its do's and don't’; emphasizing on the importance of ethical journalism and the vital role that mass communication students play in shaping society through their reporting.


Addressing the aspiring journalists, Mr. John said, "As members of the NEB, and the campus students journalists, you hold the power to inform, educate, and influence public opinion. With that power comes a great responsibility to uphold the principles of truth, accuracy, and fairness in your work. Journalism is not just a profession; it is a service to society, and I encourage each one of you to embrace that responsibility with integrity."


“For you to practice journalism effectively, there are do's and don't one must follow; you must love the job because if you love the job there are many opportunities that await you.”


“Don’t be a machinery for anyone, you are knowledgeable, and many offers await you out there also, you must mind the kind of friendship you keep around,” he said


The guest speaker also highlighted the significance of adaptability in the rapidly evolving media landscape. He stressed the need for students to embrace new technologies, such as social media and digital platforms, while staying committed to the fundamentals of journalism.


Following Mr. John's enlightening address, the leader of the NEB, Micheal Obisesan, took the stage to deliver his inaugural speech. Expressing his gratitude for the trust placed in his administration, Obisesan outlined the vision and goals of the NEB for the upcoming year.

 

Addressing his fellow students, Obisesan said, "I am honored to lead this talented group of future journalists. upholding this post of office is not by me but by the support of my fellow executives; taking the highest standards of journalistic integrity, fostering a culture of creativity and innovation, and providing a platform for the voices of our student body. Together, we will strive to make a positive impact through our work and contribute to the field of mass communication."


The ceremony proceeded with a formal handover of responsibilities from the outgoing editorial board to the incoming NEB members. The outgoing board expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve and wished the new team success in their endeavors.


With a vote of thanks from the President of the NAMACOS, Mr Adedapo Oluwasogo known by his nickname (Shogo LEE) expressed confidence in the abilities of the new editorial board and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunities presented to them.


As the NEB begins its journey at Osun State Polytechnic, its commitment to responsible journalism and dedication to its craft promises a bright future for the field of mass communication and journalism as a whole
