“Always be Proud of Yourself but Don't Be Arrogant”-GNS Lecturer Advises ND2 Mass Communication Students

During the General Studies (GNS202) class, Mr. Olagunju Ramon Nurudeen, a distinguished chief lecturer at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, delivered a lecture to aspiring journalists and mass communication students, emphasizing the importance of self-confidence and humility in their chosen field.


On Tuesday, 14th November 2023, Mr. Olagunju's impactful statement, "Always be Proud of Yourself but Don't Be Arrogant," resonated profoundly with the enthusiastic minds of the students, leaving a lasting impression on their perception of professionalism in the field.

 

However, throughout his lecture, Mr Olagunju shared anecdotes from his own career, illustrating the delicate balance between confidence and humility. He emphasized that while being confident in one's abilities is essential, it should not be accompanied by a sense of superiority or the dismissal of others' perspectives. The lecturer stressed the importance of respecting colleagues, considering diverse viewpoints, and fostering healthy collaborations in any of the students endeavors.


Moreso, he stressed that Arrogance is a kind of proudness that can hinder personal growth and learning. Noted that to excel in mass communication, “you need to be open and willing to learn from others, and willing to adapt to changing circumstances.” 


“Arrogance closes doors, while humility opens up limitless opportunities for growth and improvement." He said


Similarly, the lecture sparked a lively discussion among the students, who eagerly engaged with him during the lecture session. The lecturer encouraged them to embrace their unique talents and strengths while remaining humble and receptive to constructive criticism.
