POEM: Dear God

 By: Tomiwa Obisesan

Dear God, I thouht you said

Whoever believes in you will never know stress.

Why are we struggling to put food on the table?

If truly you're not selecting people to answer their prayers,

How come prayer warriors are dying young,

While sinners like me are still living?

Dear God, we need you.

Our eyes are full of tears.

Our people are already going astray,

Choosing gods before you,

Turning your name into a normal word.

Dear God, our hearts are bleeding,

While our feet are shaking.

You can help us, only if you're still answering prayers.

We know we can't see you,

We accept we are all sinners.

We know our prayers are weak.

Dear God, we have used you to brag.

Why are people already asking, "Where's our God?"

Your people are weary.

Why do some choose committing suicide as the best option?

Dear God, I thought you created everyone equally.

How come some work as slaves?

How come we struggle under someone before we can eat?

Why do some achieve success without stress?

Dear God, if I may ask,

Are you still answering prayers?

Why does it seem like you're selecting people

Whose prayers will be answered?

Why do we struggle this much in life,

A life that can be taken anytime?

Dear God, I still have many words to say,

But people will call me a fool.

They will call me dumb;

They will see me as an insane person.

Dear God, are you still there?
