Paris, Sept. 22, 2025 Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé has been crowned the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, edging out Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in one of the most debated editions of the award.
Dembélé, 28, enjoyed a career-best season, scoring 35 goals and providing 14 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. He was instrumental in PSG’s historic UEFA Champions League triumph, contributing 8 goals and 6 assists in Europe’s top competition. Domestically, he finished as joint-top scorer in Ligue 1 with 21 goals, while also helping PSG secure a domestic treble.
Yamal, just 18, was widely considered the favourite after a dazzling campaign with Barcelona, while Salah’s consistent scoring in the Premier League also kept him in contention.
The decision, however, has sparked mixed reactions across the football world. Supporters hailed Dembélé’s trophy-laden season, while critics argued that Yamal’s rise and Salah’s consistency deserved greater recognition.
Despite the controversy, the victory secures Dembélé’s place among football’s elite, marking his first Ballon d’Or win and a milestone in PSG’s modern era.
